The moisture content of peanut should be up to the standard before shelling; that is the peanut should not be too dry or too wet. Too dry, the peanut has high broken rate; too wet, the shelling speed is low. The moisture content of peanut is usually kept at about 9%. In the north region, people usually shell the peanut in winter.
That is because the peanut stored in winter in rural area is usually dry. For the proper moisture content, the below method could be adopted; using about 5 kg warm water to spread on 100kg peanut evenly and covered them with plastic film for about 10 hours. Then dry them under the sunshine for about 1 hour before
shelling.
